Today, on World Teachers’ Day 2023, I am greatly honoured to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the Teachers who have dedicated their lives to shaping minds, nurturing talents, and paving the way for a brighter future.
The Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance (MGSLG), fully supports the aims and activities of the 2023 World Teachers’ Day Celebration that is anchored around the pivotal theme:
“The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”
The 2023 celebrations endeavours to highlight the importance of stopping the decline in the number of teachers and then starting to increase that number at the top of the global agenda.
It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the
support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.
The MGSLG celebrates and support the advocacy for a dignified and valued teaching profession that progressively improves quality through innovation as well as inspiring practices to attract, retain and motivate teachers and educators.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of education, teachers have always been the guiding lights, the unsung heroes who inspire and ignite the flames of curiosity within each student. They are the architects of change, responsible for moulding young minds into future leaders, innovators, and problem solvers.
The past couple of years have posed unprecedented challenges for the education sector. The global pandemic forced educators to adapt and innovate like never before. They quickly transitioned to remote teaching, harnessing technology to reach students in the safety of their homes. Their resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to their students were nothing short of heroic.
As a Teacher Training and strategic partner to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), we will continue to evaluate and also examine the ways in which education systems, societies, communities, and families recognise, appreciate, and actively support teachers in their noble endeavours.
It is essential that we continue to support and empower our teachers. By investing in their professional development, providing access to resources, and acknowledging their tireless efforts, we can ensure that they are equipped to lead the transformation of education in the 21st century.
On behalf of the MGSLG, I wish to extend my sincerest appreciation to all the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. Your passion, commitment, and love for teaching are the driving forces behind the transformation of education.
You are not just teachers; you are the architects of a brighter future.
