The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), in collaboration with MGSLG, is on a mission to assist schools to use school-wide data to identify, eradicate and overcome contextual challenges that hinder the delivery of quality education.

To this end, Data-Informed Decision-Making (DIDM) is the new programme that is meant to provide the Education Stakeholders in Gauteng schools with knowledge, skills and tactics that will assist them in using school-wide data-informed decision-making that is geared towards Whole School Improvement (WSI).

Successful implementation of the programmes requires that all stakeholders collaboratively work to detect challenges that negatively impact the processes of the delivery of effective teaching and learning in schools. It is the programme where schools use the existing data to identify learners’ strengths and areas of improvement. Based on the analysis, schools can then design pointed interventions towards improving learner achievement.

In a school, administrators and educators also use their existing data to develop classroom and school plans, such as curriculum maps, assessment schedules and common assessments.

For now, at least 150 SMT members from various schools are being trained at various Teacher Centres across Gauteng. This new programme is delivered face-to-face over ten days. The programme commenced in June 2023 and will continue till September 2023.
