The Curriculum Management for SMT programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of subject, learning area, and phase leaders to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate teaching and learning, ultimately ensuring quality education delivery across all school phases.
The first session of the programme took place on 13 May 2025, marking the beginning of a structured learning journey that is set to continue on additional dates. Accredited and aligned to the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at Level 6, the programme carries 12 credits and plays a pivotal role in advancing leadership within the school environment.
Workshops covered strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and integrating AI into school governance. Participants praised the summit’s relevance and interactive sessions.
The training is structured into two comprehensive modules, each comprising four units. Participants engaged with key unit standards such as "Leading a department/phase or subject", which focuses on deepening subject-specific leadership skills and enhancing their ability to drive meaningful teaching and learning improvements through efficacious people management.
This initiative represents a significant investment in the professional development of school-based managers, equipping them with the strategic, instructional, and operational leadership skills needed to transform learning outcomes. Through collaborative learning and practice-based engagement, participants are empowered to lead with purpose and elevate the quality of education in their respective schools.
Mrs Roxanne Reddhi, Senior manager Leadership “This programme acknowledges transfer of learning from the training back into the workplace and candidates are deemed competent based on portfolio submission reflecting this.”
As the programme will fold, it will continue to affirm the Department of Education’s commitment to nurturing strong, skilled leaders who can navigate the evolving demands of 21st-century education.
