Newly appointed teachers programme for Cohort 3, which is the last cohort for this financial year took place on the 15th of February 2025 in all 15 Districts of Gauteng. This programme is instrumental in shaping the future of education, making it crucial for teachers to receive structured support and professional development. This induction programme provides the teachers with a strong foundation in their profession while ensuring a clear understanding of the legal frameworks governing their employment. By equipping educators with essential knowledge and skills, the programme promotes their professional growth and contributes to the overall improvement of teaching and learning quality. Portia Tsotetsi from Jiyana Secondary School, teacher in Technology, Creative Arts and Tourism Studies “I was happy to know and understand the conduct in the policies, how to use them and apply them in the daily content I teach. Also knowing the framework of the curriculum delivery and to be ready for the new adventures in this deposit”.
The professional development program for newly appointed teachers encompasses several critical topics, including:
- Norms and Standards: Understanding the expectations and benchmarks that guide teaching practices.
- Code of Professional Ethics: Familiarization with ethical standards that promote integrity and professionalism in the classroom.
- Classroom Management: Strategies for creating a conducive learning environment and effectively managing learner behavior.
- Curriculum Management: Techniques for planning, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum to meet diverse student needs and
- Data driven decision making: How to collect, analyse and use data to make informed decisions.
To accommodate the ongoing employment of teachers throughout the academic year, the programme is structured into three cohorts, each participating in four comprehensive modules. This approach ensures that all newly appointed teachers can engage in meaningful professional development.
On the 15th of February 2025 the session held incorporated:
